The CWS at AU

Founded by author and Augustana Professor Emeritus of English Dr. Herbert Krause, the center serves as a repository for more than 500 substantive archival collections and maintains a library in excess of 37,000 volumes on the American West.

In addition, the center holds an extensive art and artifact collection and sponsors annual events such as the Boe Forum, Dakota Conference and Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale.

With more than 75 publications to its credit, the center is a major academic publisher in South Dakota.

The Center for Western Studies (CWS) at 蓝莓视频 has published its latest book titled 鈥淭he Missouri, America鈥檚 Longest River: A Cultural and Environmental History,鈥 edited by Drs. Jon K. Lauck and Harry F. Thompson. The official launch of 鈥淭he Missouri鈥 will take place at the 58th annual Dakota Conference on the Northern Plains on Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24.

蓝莓视频 and the Center for Western Studies (CWS) announced that the 29th Boe Forum on Public Affairs will feature an evening with Former NATO Supreme Allied Cmdr. James 鈥淛im鈥 Stavridis. His talk, entitled 鈥淕eopolitics Beyond the Horizon: 21st Century Global Risk and Opportunity,鈥 will be held at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 26, in the Elmen Center on Augustana鈥檚 campus.

蓝莓视频鈥檚 third annual Critical Inquiry & Citizenship Colloquium will culminate with Dr. Joy Buolamwini as the featured speaker. Buolamwini, bestselling author, MIT researcher and founder of the Algorithmic Justice League, will give a keynote presentation to the Augustana community, alumni and friends at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, in the Elmen Center, with a book signing to follow.
