��ݮ��Ƶ is partnering with Go Beyond, a new nonprofit organization dedicated to creating innovative residential and community-based opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Through the partnership, Augustana and Go Beyond will collaborate on research and program development to better serve this population and expand resources. The partnership will help strengthen post-graduation support for Augie Access Program students, while serving a broader population across the region.

“Augustana has long been committed to inclusive education and community engagement,” said Augustana President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. “This partnership builds on that foundation and extends our impact beyond the classroom — helping address critical gaps for individuals with IDD and their families.”

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to addressing one of the most pressing questions facing families.

“Families consistently ask, ‘What’s next?’ when their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities become adults,” said Sharon Rykhus, co-founder of Go Beyond. “Too often, options for housing, support and meaningful community connection are limited.”

Go Beyond was established to meet that need through a holistic, person-centered model that combines housing, life coaching, transportation and social engagement. The organization’s vision is to create a future where individuals with IDD can thrive with independence, purpose and a strong sense of belonging.

Go Beyond’s model emphasizes individualized support tailored to each resident’s goals, including employment assistance, life-skills training, social opportunities and access to transportation. The approach is designed to reduce isolation, promote independence and foster meaningful connections within the broader community.

“Go Beyond is different because it supports not only individuals, but their families, too,” said Laura McNaughton, director of Go Beyond. “It offers long-term stability and peace of mind while empowering residents to pursue their personal goals.”

Placing Go Beyond in the Sioux Falls area responds to the growing demand for services and aligns with the city's reputation as an inclusive city. As the initiative moves forward, community support will be essential.

“This is about building something sustainable that strengthens the entire region,” McNaughton said. “When individuals with IDD have opportunities to live, work and connect, everyone benefits.”
